Do money and how we do money matter? We at the AFJM sure think so! That’s why we formed this Alliance in 2018 “to research, educate, and organize for real monetary reform.” Friends at Conscious Revolution – a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) and certified B Corporation (B Corp) based in Maine – also think money matters, including in ways that most don’t realize or address. That’s why they invited AFJM to present to their Conscious Leadership Community last fall, and asked us to return to give a 3-part series on “Money Matters” this March. Read on for more about this collaboration and the upcoming series!
On October 22, 2025, AFJM founding members and Board members John Howell and Lucille Eckrich presented “Just Money: An Introduction to Monetary Critique and Reform.” The session was recorded and is available to watch online. While attendance was smaller than expected, due in part to technical issues that prevented some registrants from accessing the webinar, the contents will be included in Part 1 (March 4th) of the March 2026 “Money Matters” series.
Part 2 (March 11th) will walk participants through AFJM’s legislative proposal, the American Monetary Reform Act (AMRA). Part 3 (March 18th) will compare an array of approaches to reforming money and finance. These webinars are geared to newcomers, open to the general public, and will include time for Q&A, comments, and critiques.
If you are available from 12-1:30PM ET on the first three Wednesdays of March, this is an excellent opportunity to get introduced to “Money Matters”! Registration is required for each session, and a contribution is requested but not required when registering.
Full details, including registration links, appear at the end of this news piece and at the links above and on Conscious Revolution’s Programs and Events page with their other upcoming events. If the sessions are recorded and made available online, we will update this AFJM news page with links to them at a later date.
Finally, you may be wondering:
1. What is Conscious Revolution?
2. What are PBCs and B Corps?
3. How did Conscious Revolution find AFJM?
4. How can other organizations collaborate with AFJM?
1. What is Conscious Revolution?
Conscious Revolution is “a women-owned consultancy made up of passionate advocates and participants on a quest to expand human consciousness and cultivate organizational possibilities.”
Its Purpose is “creating alternative futures together.” Its Vision is for “a way of being, seeing, and doing continuously emerging towards collective thriving.” Its Mission is to provide “holistic support to expand and deepen leadership consciousness through coaching, unique community experiences, and organizational consulting.”
And it Values “being fully human, choosing responsiveness, questioning the status quo, and seeking joy.” You can learn more on its “Who We Are” page, which also includes links to its last three annual Impact Reports.
2. What are PBCs and B Corps?
According to the Cornell Law School Legal Information Institute, “a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) is a for-profit corporation created to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner while also pursuing one or more specified public benefits, in addition to generating profit for shareholders. Unlike traditional C corporations, which are primarily obligated to maximize shareholder value, PBCs are permitted, and required, to balance three considerations:
- The pecuniary interests of shareholders,
- The best interests of those materially affected by the corporation’s conduct (such as employees, customers, and communities), and
- The public benefit or benefits identified in the corporation’s certificate of incorporation.”
According to Wikipedia, a B Corporation is “a for-profit corporation certified for its social impact by B Lab, a private global non-profit organization. To be granted and to maintain certification, a company must receive a minimum score of 80 from an assessment of its social and environmental performance, integrate B Corp commitments to stakeholders into company governing documents, and pay an annual fee based on annual sales. Companies must re-certify every three years to retain B Corporation status.”
As succinctly summarized in a 2022 US News article, PBC “is a legal status.” B Corp “is a certification. Both PBCs and B Corps aim to change capitalism.” If they truly do, then every PBC and B Corp needs to follow Conscious Revolution’s lead and learn about monetary critique and reform, because modern money is the systemic source of capitalism. Change the money, and we change the world! Only through Just Money reform can we overcome the extractive growth imperative built into the modern economy and become a market economy and polity that not only take environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations seriously but live them out.
3. How did Conscious Revolution find AFJM?
We don’t know the full story, but in early May 2024 – perhaps inspired by hearing about AFJM’s “Mayday for Money” event in Chicago that month – a staff person from Conscious Revolution subscribed to our mailing list.
Fourteen months later, she replied to an AFJM email to inquire if we “ever do virtual talks?” She wrote, “We would love to host you for our audience sometime this fall? Let me know if this is something that you do as part of your work? Thinking of a one-hour virtual session to organize folks into this movement?” We replied “yes!”, and the rest is history still-in-the-making.
4. How can other organizations collaborate with AFJM?
The answer to that question, dear reader, is in your hands.
- The more you engage in helping AFJM to achieve its Mission, the more people from more organizations will hear about and subscribe to AFJM.
- The more you encourage organizations you are involved with to subscribe and to learn more about “Money Matters,” the more likely they will be to join our Alliance and want to collaborate with us.
- AFJM’s Bylaws welcome “any natural person, firm, association, corporation, business trust, partnership, organization, state or political subdivision or agency thereof, or other entity” to become a member in the Alliance (see Article III Sections 1 and 4B). You, dear reader, can become a member if you are not one already. Member or subscriber, you can volunteer to help AFJM organize actions like “Mayday for Money,” and campaign for AMRA and “Rethink Money, Reclaim Power.”
- In sum, AFJM needs you to help build a movement for monetary reform! Start today by registering for some or all of Conscious Revolution’s “Money Matters” series and/or by encouraging your friends, relatives, colleagues, and fellow activists or organizational members to do so. Full details and registration links for each session appear below.
Thank you for being part of this work! If you have any questions or ideas, contact us at reform@monetaryalliance.org.
Money Matters – 3-part series
Wednesdays, March 4th, 11th, and 18th
12AM ET / 11AM CT / 10AM MT / 9AM PT
Duration: 90 min
Speakers: John Howell and Lucille Eckrich of the Alliance For Just Money
What will it take to achieve a Conscious Revolution for a just and sustainable society and global village? An oft-taken-for-granted part of our market economy is money itself. But what is money? Where does it come from? Who creates it today, how, and to whose benefit? How does our current money system direct the allocation of resources? How does it affect our relationships with each other, locally and globally, and with the rest of nature? Does it support or undermine democratic practices, sustainability, and just exchange? Are there alternatives?
These questions and more will be explored in this 3-part series. Register now at each link below.
Part 1 (March 4th): Money Matters – Money at a Crossroads: Why Change is Needed
We will outline the basics of the money system today, taking a peek at its history. How does the US money supply originate and grow? Where does it go when the money supply shrinks (it does so only rarely)? How is the money supply regulated? What are the effects of the current money system on the wealth gap, on sustainability, and on democracy itself? How did our system arise? What are monetary processes vs. fiscal processes? Time will be allotted for Q&A, comments, and critiques.
Part 2 (March 11th): Money Matters – Legislating Change: The Details of Monetary Reform
We will walk through and look at some of the important details of the American Monetary Reform Act (AMRA) as proposed by the Alliance For Just Money. What is the purpose of AMRA, and how does it achieve its purpose? How does AMRA restrain Congress from “printing too much money” and causing unacceptable levels of inflation? How does it affect banking? How does it involve both centralized and decentralized components in directing the flow of newly created money? How does it propose to stabilize the economy? How does it help the country address critical problems relating to meeting social needs and environmental protection? How does it affect money in politics? How does it provide for a smooth transition to a money system that is more accountable and beneficial to the public than the present system is? Time will be allotted for Q&A, comments, and critiques.
Part 3 (March 18th): Money Matters – Paths to Reform: Contrasting Monetary Solutions
Many approaches to money and finance exist. They vary in the degree to which they transfer control of the money system to the public and the way control will be transferred. Some like AMRA (featured in session 2) and central bank digital currency (CBDC) entail federal legislation only. Others like public banking and complementary currencies focus on local communities, regions, or states. Who should be trusted with the money supply – bankers or government? What about cryptocurrencies and so-called stablecoins? Each approach has features that can be perceived as strengths and weaknesses. Some of those will be summarized. Time will be allotted for Q&A, comments, and critiques.
